Herbal Teas – as good as they are made out to be?

Herbal Teas – as good as they are made out to be?

Unless you have been living under a rock or just returned from Mars, you would have heard about how herbal teas are a magical addition to your diet. The claims from weight loss to improved body function, increased focus and energy and a longer life sound too good to be true, so are they really as good as they are made out to be for you?

The answer to that question is YES! Herbal teas can provide a wide range of different benefits for your body and lifestyle and also are now as addictive as coffee!

So what are the main benefits of teas?

Weight Loss – If you are wanting to lose weight, then adding regular cups of freshly brewed tea is most definitely for you. Teas such as green tea and matcha tea have been proven to aid in weight loss. Both of these teas help increase thermogenesis which means that more calories are burnt when at rest, and as well all know, the more calories you burn, the more weight you can lose. As well as their calorie burning aiding properties, green tea has also been shown to have antioxidants that help to protect your cells from damage and can help to detox your body.

De-Stress – Teas are widely known for their calming effects and can dramatically help to decrease your stress levels and also your blood levels. Chamomile tea, for instance, acts as a relaxant and can actually promote sleep.

Digestion – By simply adding tea to your diet you are helping to aid your body in digesting your daily food intake. This, in turn, can help prevent diseases and promote weight loss as well. Certain teas such as peppermint tea can also help to stop the symptoms of nausea and vomiting when you are unwell.

Preventing Diseases – Long-term studies have shown that people who regularly consume black tea are less likely to have cardiovascular disease, and in fact, by having a cup a day you can actually reverse the damage done by these diseases. Green tea has also been known to help prevent diabetes, liver cancer and Parkinson’s disease.

What should we look out for when purchasing tea?

It is vital to know what each tea does to your body, as there are also teas that contain caffeine and others that can have a laxative effect. Organic tea is always best as there are no nasty chemicals involved in the processing of getting the tea from the earth to you.

As well as this if you are pregnant, trying to conceive or have already underlying health issues, it is vital to consult with your doctor before trying any new teas as there can be some negative side effects for these conditions.

Tea is a great tool to incorporate into your daily regime whether you are wanting to relax, detox or lose weight, the benefits of a daily cuppa are too good to pass up on!
