How to Brew Tea like a Tea Master

Brewing tea is not an overly complex task. However, there are a few fundamentals to follow to ensure you get the perfect cup of tea every time.

Knowing how to brew a quality cup of herbal tea takes a little more time to perfect. However, get it right, and you will have a tea regime as good as any tea master can conjure up.

So, here is our Bondi Beach Tea Co. go-to guide on how to brew a cup of tea like an expert.

How to brew the best cup of tea

Tea Type                            Ideal Brewing Temperature (Celsius)       Steep Time

    Green tea                           80 degrees                                                       1 - 3 minutes

    Herbal tea blends             100 degrees                                                     5 - 15 minutes

*Tip: for a green tea brew just add 80% boiling water to a cup with 20% cooled water to get the perfect temperature.

    Tea brewing tips

    Nailing your measurements

A good rule of thumb for brewing tea is to use 1 teaspoon of tea leaves for every cup of hot tea. A one-litre teapot generally caters for four cups of tea – so you would use 4 teaspoons of tea in a full teapot.

Use a quality tea leaf strainer like our Bondi Beach Tea Co. silicone and stainless tea leaf strainer – shop our strainershere.

When you are brewing a cup of refreshing iced tea, change up the quantity to 2 teaspoons of tea for every cup of water.

    Flavour or strength

To get a fuller flavour, you can leave your tea leaves steep for a minute or two longer. But for ultimate flavour just add an extra half to full teaspoon of leaves to your brew if you like it a bit heavier.

    Serve it up

Our Bondi Beach Tea Co. natural herbal teas taste their best without the addition of milk or sugar. If you need to sweeten your tea just add a tiny dab of organic honey. Alternatively, you can squeeze some lemon juice into a green tea for flavour and more power-packed health properties.

Check out our recent article on the added benefits of lemon juice with green teahere.

To prevent your hot tea from cooling too quickly, firstly warm up your teacup. Just add a little boiling water to your cup, swirl it around then discard that water. Instant warmth.

*Tip: for a cleaner, crisper taste, always use fresh, filtered water to brew the perfect cup of tea. Don’t re-use the same water in the kettle, instead preserve that to water your plants when it is cooled and start over again.

Knowing how to brew the perfect cup of tea is all about patience and a little about personal preference. Once you get these basics right, you will be brewing tea like a master,  using the best green tea Australia.
