    Can Ginger Help with Migraines?

    Can Ginger Help with Migraines?

Ginger is already so versatile. A tasty ingredient in your favourite stir fry dish, a filler and topper in your Nana’s best Christmas cake recipe. Powdered, ground, dried, candied, pickled, crystalised, juiced, and of course fresh. Ginger is a handy ingredient around the kitchen.

What’s even better about ginger is its vast array of medicinal values that have been known for many centuries, particularly in traditional Chinese medicine. A lot of people are already aware that ginger can provide relief from nausea, and is particularly favoured by pregnant mothers who are experiencing morning sickness as it is believed to be safe to eat and help ease the discomfort.

It is said too, that ginger is amazing at relieving migraines! The next time you have an onset of a migraine coming on, try mixing a quarter of a teaspoon of ginger powder into a small glass of water. It is believed within as fast as half an hour; the migraine can disappear. Without the need for any drugs, this has to be better for your body. Those who have used this ginger cure say it works every time with no side effects.

Some other well-known benefits of ginger include:

    • Helping to overcome motion sickness
    • Helps to relieve vomiting and nausea
    • Ginger is a calmative; you can take it when you need to relax a little
    • Helps to get rid of intestinal gas
    • Ginger can help to relax and soothe your intestinal tract
    • Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties and is a natural immune system builder

Ginger can be enjoyed in many dishes from sweet to savoury, entrée, main, dessert or snack.

If you’d like to try the benefits of ginger for yourself, check out this lovely ginger tea blend we thought you might like. Combined with turmeric for its powerful digestive and liver stimulant functions, turmeric ginger tea is supercharged with health properties that will keep you warm as well.

    Turmeric Ginger Tea Recipe

    (Serves two)

Thinly slice and place approximately two centimetres each of fresh ginger root and fresh turmeric root into two cups of boiling water on the stove top. Simmer for about 15 minutes, then strain and pour the water into two mugs. Serve immediately.

*N.B. if you don’t have fresh turmeric on hand, you could use ½ teaspoon of dried or ground turmeric instead.

And if you are in the hunt for something a little sweeter, you might like this healthy ginger slice recipe we found online at Australian Healthy Food Guide. This ginger slice would partner perfectly well with a cup of Bondi Unwind tea or our all-new Bondi Beach Tea Co. Breakfast Tea blend.

So, next time you are reaching into the medicine cupboard to rid yourself of that dreaded migraine coming on, go straight to your spice rack instead and enjoy some ginger with water. The relief is fast, and the side effects are nil – much like all of our teas at Bondi Beach Tea Co. Check us out online today.
